Seminar or Event

The next course of instruction for prospective magisterial district judges, prospective Philadelphia Traffic Court Judges, and prospective Philadelphia Bail Commissioners will be conducted (to be announced soon) at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel located in Harrisburg, PA. The course consists of four weeks of instruction, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. each day, and a final examination. Prospective Philadelphia Traffic Court Judges and prospective Philadelphia Bail Commissioners will attend various days throughout the four week period. The course is open to any interested Pennsylvania resident eligible to hold public office and those prospective magisterial district judges, prospective Philadelphia Traffic Court Judges and Philadelphia Bail Commissioners required to attend by the Judicial Code and the Pennsylvania Constitution as cited below:

"Magisterial district judges, bail commissioners and judges who are not members of the bar of this Commonwealth shall complete a course of training and instruction in the duties of their respective offices and pass an examination prior to assuming office." Judicial Code (42 Pa C.S.A. §3112)

"Judges of the traffic court in the City of Philadelphia and justices of the peace shall be members of the bar of the Supreme Court or shall complete a course of training and instruction in the duties of their respective offices and pass an examination prior to assuming office. Such courses and examinations shall be as provided by law." Constitution of Pennsylvania (Article V, §12b)

Individuals who are not members of the Pennsylvania Bar seeking to hold the office of Magisterial District Judge, Philadelphia Traffic Court Judge, Philadelphia Hearing Officer or Philadelphia Bail Commissioner must be certified prior to assuming office.
